SABER native DOS RSS - Windows XP one-click package
===================================================

Version
-------
Motorola SABER RSS S07.01.02 / PVN4000A (1993-07-13)
VHF/UHF Extended Bandsplit release.

Requirements
------------
1. 32-bit Windows XP. Windows XP x64 cannot run 16-bit DOS programs natively.
2. A real motherboard/PCI serial port enabled and assigned as COM1.
3. The correct Motorola RIB/programming cable and a stable radio power supply.
4. Local administrator rights for the first installation.

Install and run
---------------
Double-click INSTALL_XP.CMD. It copies the complete program to:

    C:\SABER

It then creates "SABER DOS RSS" on the desktop and starts the program.
After installation, use that desktop shortcut or START_SABER.CMD.

Serial-port setting
-------------------
The launcher verifies that Windows can see physical COM1 before starting RSS.
In SABER RSS, open SETUP COMPUTER CONFIGURATION and confirm that Serial Port is
set to COM1 before reading or writing a radio.

Critical timing warning
-----------------------
SABER RSS was designed for very slow DOS-era computers and is highly sensitive
to CPU timing. Windows XP NTVDM can launch it, but safe communication and write
timing cannot be guaranteed on a modern/fast CPU. A slow computer booted into
real MS-DOS is strongly recommended for actual radio programming.

Important radio precautions
---------------------------
- Read the radio first and save a backup before changing anything.
- Do not disconnect power, the RIB, or the serial cable during a write.
- Confirm COM1 in SETUP COMPUTER CONFIGURATION before use.
- Use only with supported SABER radios and lawful frequency/settings.
- The extended bandsplit release requires extra caution near band limits.

Original program integrity
--------------------------
SABER.EXE and SABER.PIF are unchanged.
